Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

PREACHING to the converted will get me nowhere, but I thought that I ought to write to express my disgust at BBC2's Brass Tacks programme on February 15. I enclose a letter written to the DirectorGeneral of the BBC, but perhaps we only have ourselves to blame.

I know the good work that Commercial Motor has done to try to bring the industry together to put on a united front with regard to the lobbying of Influential people, to stress the professionalism of the industry. We at York Trailers tried about ten years ago with our "If you've got it, a truck brought it" campaign to do likewise. The industry really only has Itself to blame.

M. F. CARRINGTON Marketing Manager York Trailer Corby To Mr Alisdair Milne, The Director General, British Broadcasting Corporation, Broadcasting House, London, W1A IAA.

Dear Sir I have hitherto respected the impartiality and journalistic ethics of the BBC. After watching Brass Tacks on Wednesday evening, I no longer hold that view. The whole programme could be described as sensational journalism of the kind I would expect to read in the News of the World. The content of the programme, if loosely based on fact, was presented in such a biased way as to give no credibility to the professionalism of a respectable industry.

There is no point going on. am sure this will be one of a sackful of letters of criticism and objections that you will receive. The road transport industry deserves the right to reply. What can you offer?

Yours very truly, M. F. Carrington York Trailer
