The Government is yet again predicting a recovery in the economy this year. The facts tell a different story Around 100,000 people have gone personally bankrupt during the past three years, equal to the number that went bankrupt during the previous 15. Bankruptcies are running at nearly ten times that of a decade ago.
Tens of thousands more businesses will go bust this year. Trading conditions still remain harsh. The Inland Revenue and Customs and Excise have been particularly merciless in putting businesses into bankruptcy and the banks have played their part.
The Bankruptcy Association is an independent organisation and offers debt counselling and advice to anyone in financial trouble for an annual membership of £15. It has built itself into a national institution with thousands of members.
