Being able to obtain a nearly new truck for a relatively low outlay when set against the invoice for a new one appeals to customers who need to replace their existing vehicles, but are nervous about the future of UK plc.
“They’re worried that the economy will go wrong again, so they’re being cautious,” says Stuart Wolstenholme, used sales manager at the Middleton, Manchester, branch of Scania dealership West Pennine Trucks. “The signs look good, but they’re wary: they don’t want to get caught again.
“They’re also concerned about the rate at which fuel prices are rising and the impact it might have on business. I cringe when I see how much it costs to fill up my car. I’d cringe even more if I had to fill a truck with several hundred litres of diesel.” Opting for used rather than new makes operators feel less exposed financially.
