A SHORT LENGTH of the old LNWR Coalport branch in the centre of Telford is being developed as a 60cm-gauge tramway with a Shrewsbury-built Sentinel 0-4-0 steam locomotive named Thomas. It operates on a steeply graded route in the town's huge new park.
The locomotive was officially named by the Rev Gilbert Vere Awdrey, whose "famous family of steam engines have,says Telford Development Corporation, "been immoralised in his children's story books about Thomas's branch line.
Now who would have suspected Thomas the Tank Engine of peddling porn?
