■ A new wave of fuel protests is set to take place next week, according to insiders from the People's Fuel Lobby (PFL).
The group plans four days of predominantly regional action starting on Tuesday 8 May.
As CMwent to press the nature of the protests was not clear but action is reported to be planned in Scotland, Wales and the SouthWest.
PFL spokesman Trevor Savage says rising fuel prices are inflaming the situation: "Fuel prices have gone up 2.9p in the past two weeks and soon we will be back to where we were last September. The government doesn't seem to have listened, so it appears that we will have to ask them to listen again."
Savage declined to comment on whether oil refineries would be targeted in the same way as last year's blockades.
Former PFL chairman Mark Francis backs any protest action: "The apathetic British public seem to be happy to pay 77p/lit. They'd like it to be cheaper but they don't want to make a fuss."
