I read with great interest the article about Purtleet test station (CM 5-11 Sept). The first thing that concerned me was the fact that so many vehicles are being passed incorrectly. If the Lighting regulations set a maximum height for a lamp, and the tester does not spot 4, then that tester needs to be re-trained. My second worry is that the body builders know that their products do not comply with th regulations, so why are they creating 'illegal' vehicles? Third if the owners in this article are aware that these lamps are incorrectly positioned, why ha% they not moved them?
By far the worst thing in thi article is that you are encouraging your readers to complain when a tester does his job correctly. I personally would rather my vehicle failed correctly than passed incorrectly. Your magazine should concentrate on the stupidity of the test regulation rather than the individuals whi try their best to do it right. Name and address suppled.
