At a meeting of the Motor Vehicles Sub-committee of the. Newport (Mon.) Corporation a report of the general manager of the Electricity and Tramways Department upon the corporation motorcar service for the quarter ended December 31st was considered. The costs during the quarter' including £50 depreciation, amounted to £324 is. 9d., the amount paid for hire of taxicabs. during the same period was £44 11s. 6d., and the amounts charged to the various corporation departments for the quarter aggregated £328 5s. 10d. The estimated income and expenditure in connection with the motorcars for the year ending March 31st, 1923, was in each case £1,182.
The committee recommends that the corporation motorcars be dispensed with, and that motorcars, when necessary, be hired .under contract.
