Other recommendations are: • Notification of acute ill health thought to be caused by pathogen; • Notification of information on health of workers employed in special risk processes; • Notification through the Department of Health and Social Security of information in response to enquiries about workers' claims for benefit after incidences of "prescribed" occupational diseases; and • Maintenance of a register of all enquiries and notifications.
The HSC says that it needs this information to enable it to act promptly when incidents suggest a need for urgent investigation.
At present, it says, the system is hampered by an inability of many employers to identify illnesses which are caused by industrial processes.
