Tanker hero
A TANKER driver earned praise from a Welsh fire brigade last week when he stayed at the wheel of his blazing vehicle and drove it away from the centre of a village.
George Farmer was driving on the Camarthen to Cardigan road when a fire broke out in the engine compartment of his 2,300-gallon tanker.
Mr Farmer drove the vehicle clear of the village, tried to put the fire out with an extinguisher and later cleared people from the area as firemen arrived to tackle the fire, which could have spread to his load which included paraffin.
