TRANSPORT Minister William Rodgers opened a new skills testing centre for the Road Transport Industry Training Board at Greenford, Middlesex, on Tuesday.
The centre is to be known as the Kenneth Turner Training Centre after RTITB chairman Kenneth Turner who has told the minister that he will not accept a further term. as chairman.
Companies in the South and East of England will be able to use the facilities of the new centre which is designed to check the progress of trainees. It is equipped to cope with 24 people a day in both light and heavy mechanic classes and vehicle bodywork.
The name of the centre was decided by RTITB members as a tribute to the "unfailing energy, and devotion that Mr Turner has given to the industry in his 12 years of office."
Tests taken at the centre will be a pre-requisite for the National Craft Certificate following a decision by National Joint Council for the Motor Vehicle Retail and Repair Industry and the RTITB claims that it has already stimulatedmore interest in skills testing.
