MORE than £146 in fines and costs was imposed on four long-distance lorry drivers at Daventry last week when further cases were heard in what has become known as the " trunkers' fiddle".
The prosecution said the drivers signed for more fuel than was supplied to them at Tubby's filling station, near Rugby on the AS Watling Street. They were paid about 3s. for each excess gallon they signed for.
George 0. Blanckley, of Putney, London, S.W.15, was fined £44 with three guineas costs on II cases; Bernard Catlin, of Hillingdon, Middlesex, was fined £23 with three guineas costs on four cases; Maurice Munson, of Hillingdon, was fined 129 with three guineas costs on six cases; and Edward Hollis, of Uxbridge, Middlesex, was fined £30 with £10 12s. costs on seven cases.
