Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AN application by Braithwaite Tours Ltd., of Hartlepool, Co. Durham, to develop their tours to Northern Ireland and Eire was opposed by Milted Automobile Services Ltd., at Durham County Hall last Friday. The opposition was on the basis that Braithwaite wished to collect and deposit passengers in Darlington market place, the " ground " of the United and Northern General Transport companies.

Mr. Alan McCoom, general manager of Braithwaite, told the Northern Traffic Commissioners that the firm served a great many people in Darlington who had to travel out of the town to go on their tours and who had to return to Darlington hy means of a service bus.

It was stated on behalf of United that they ran tours to Northern Ireland and their coaches from Darlington always had an ample number of seats for further passengers; added competition would only lead to no one getting the benefit. Regarding the Eire tour it was said that Northern were applying for a licence in the near future; as they were licensed operators in Darlington it was only fair that they should gain preference before "outsiders ".

The decision was adjourned for further information on the demand for extra tours.
