nUR prizewinner this week is Mr. D. Smith, of Ironbridge, nr. Shropshire. His idea is concerned with prop shaft
nuts and bolts. He says he has found diameter nuts and bolts and larger sizes often coming loose because they have not been tightened enough initially.
A Simple Job
Tightening with two spanners is not easy when one is working alone. To overcome this Mr. Smith puts an internal shake-proof washer behind the nut --and when the bolt is tightened the washer locks the nut and so stops it from turning. This makes the job quite simple for one man to undertake, using one spanner— or, better still, socket and a torque wrench.
