I WAS A truck driver for over 40 years but sadly, in 2000,1 had to take early retirement due to having two strokes while driving home on the M6 near Hilton Park. Since then,! have spent my time at home preparing a large scrap book to look back on my 40 years.
I have a large cabinet full of trucks from the '40s to '60s.Two months ago I had some old photos and truck books sent to me and one of them was a Commercial Motor dated 8 March 1935.
It was in a bit of a state hut! have been able to restore it slightly.
On the front is a 30mph Albion four-tonner chassis, priced from £395.! have read the magazine and I see times have not changed much, with letters about overloading, drivers' records, thieves breaking into cabs and calls for free licences for HGV drivers.
It seems things have not changed much. Although the price of your magazine then was threepence!
