Agents and Manufacturers are to Ensure a Good Industrial Display.
As we have already announced en several occasions, the Scottish Motor Show will be opened in the Industrial Hall, Kelvin Grove, Glasgow, on Friday, the 12th inst. The commercial-motor vehicle will be well represented at this eithibition, and we now purpose briefly to indicate to our readers the nature of those exhibits which will appeal to visitors and others whose interests are primarily industrial.
Albion Motor Car Co., Ltd.
As might be expected, the Albion Co, at such an exhibition as this in its native town, will make a fine display. In addition to a number of pleasure cars on Stand No. 17, Stand No. 4 will have displayed upon it three examples of Albion industrial chassis. We reproduce on this page a photograph of a 30 cwt. Albion van, which is in most respects similar to the 16 h.p. 20 cwt. box van which this maker will stage. At the time of going to press with this advance notice it was impossible to photograph the actual machines, as they had not I hen left the coachbuilders_ The bodywork of the 16 h.p. vehicle is of special design, and has been built to the order of A. Massey and Co., of Edinburgh. The 25 cwt. van is fitted with a. detachable hood. The example of the 32 h.p. chassis is fitted with a 30-seated torpedo-type char-a-bancs body, which has been constructed to the order of the Lams, Wernyss Ray and West Coast Motor Service Co., of Largs. The bodywork on this machine provides only for doors at the front, and there is therefore no need for the services of a conductor. The centre passage is provided with tip-up seats. The overhead
canopy is fitted with curtains for summer use and removable windows for winter service. All the Albion machines will be fitted with the well-known Albion mileage recorders. Two of the vehicles will be shod with Continental " T " pattern solid tires, whilst the 25 cwt. van is to be provided with Avon tires on the front wheels and twin Faransure tires on the hind wheels.
The New Arrol-Johnston Car Co., Ltd.
This Scottish maker, whose works are at Paisley, notifies us that although it will be showing a range of its well-known pleasure cars it. is not its intention to exhibit on this occasion any commercial vehicles.
Halley's Industrial Motors, Ltd. Like another maker mentioned on this page, Halley's are not losing the opportunity of making a
good display of their commercialvehicle types of machines at this show, which will take place so near to the factory. We reproduce on this page a photograph of an interesting type of lorry which is of standard Halley design. An example of this type will be staged at Glasgow on Sat. next week ; it is fitted with the usual Halley type of 4-cylinder engine with
tension-magneto ignition, as well as with a high-tension battery and coil system. The example which we illustrate, it will be noted, has steel plate wheels. The first time that the new 35-40 h.p. engine, which was illustrated in our issue for the 7th December last, will have been publicly put on view will be at this Show ; it will be fitted into a 80-40 cwt. chassis. Our readers will remember that this interesting type of motor has trough lubrication, that the cylinders are cast in pairs, and that the cooling is of the thermo-syphon type.. Those who desire to refresh their memories with regard to this model are referred to page 293 of the issue which we have mentioned, where the illustrations of it will be found. Two other types of commercial vehicles will find a place on Halley's stand. One is a 40-45 h.p. 5-ton flat lorry, with an engine whose cylinders are cast separately ; and the other will be an 18-20 h.p. light van which has been built for Messrs. Daly and Co., drapers, of Sauchiehall.Street, Glasgow. This is a very wellfinished machine, and has been completed in such a style that it will be suitable for high-grade delivery work. The chassis is of standard Halley type, with a twocylinder 18-20 h.p. engine.
