De Luxe Methods
TNCLUDED in products demonstrated I to the Press, last Monday, at the Great West Road, Brentford, factory of the Pyrene Co., Ltd., was the new De Luxe model fire extinguisher. This has been designed to provide an extra degree of finish, modern design and practical efficiency, and is particularly suitable as equipment for a luxury coach.
Technical improvements embodied in this model constitute a new doubleacting rotating pump giving a strong, continuous, balanced jet of fire-killing liquid, and a fiat base to the body of the extinguisher, containing a recess which protects the nozzle, even if dropped.
Stringent Tests
In the tests, a quantity of burning petrol in a pail was first extinguished, and then a 30-ft. trail of blazing petrol on the ground.
Also demonstrated were the C.0.„ the Conquest and the Phonnene extinguishers, of established reputation, and the foam-making branch pipe.
The Phomene, in one test, was employed to extinguish blazing waste fuel oil and petrol in a metal tank 100 sq. ft_ in area.
The products of the company are not confined to fire-fighting appliances, and one notable activity is metal-finishing. The metal-finishing division of the company controls the operation, under licence, of Parkerizing, which protects iron and steel against rust; Bonderizing, which bonds paint to steel; and Pylumin for protecting aluminium. • Other products are bumpers, in modern styling, and Pyrene lightweight concrete, a material made by a process similar to that employed for making foam compound, as used in extinguishers. It can be mixed in ordinary concrete mixers, and density can be varied.
