nPFRATORS have been recom1/4-1 mended to boycott the Brighton Coach Rally, to be held on April 23-24. This decision has been reached by the London and Home Counties Area committee of the Passenger Vehicle Operators' Association. It is a reprisal against Brighton Corporation, who have failed' to improve facilities for coach passengers, despite urgent requests by P.V.O.A.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Association said that conditions at the terminal point for express services at Madeira Drive, Brighton, were chaotic. Inadequate space had been a long, standing and urgent problem, and representations by the Association were met last October by assurances from the corporation that matters would be improved for the 1960 coaching season.
Arrangements last year were so inadequate that every day passengers were left behind, causing operators heavy expense, and the loss of goodwill and traffic.
Despite the assurances given. P.V.O.A. said. the corporation proposed to make• precisely the same arrangements for the forthcoming season. The London and Home Counties Area committee had unanimously decided that they could not, be expected to support the coach rally. which was, in any case, only a "local event."
