Bibby, which has 500 drivers, is one of the companies involved in the pilot scheme. It wants to hang onto drivers, but personnel director Martin Howard says they leave for all sorts of reasons, often because of the way they are treated at local level.
The firm ran all six sections of the scheme in three of its depots, and it gave some interesting results. "In one depot management perception was far higher than driver perception, but in another, which is perhaps more in tune with its drivers, the scores were very similar," says Howard. "It's driver perception that counts though if they think we're rubbish at something then we are... there's no getting away from it."
Overall, Bibby 's results suggested it "could do better". Howard concludes: "It's helped us focus on areas for improvement, and while there aren't many companies on the site to compare ourselves with right now it will become more useful as there are more participants."
