ADAILY freight and passenger service between the U.K. and the Continent was inaugurated last week by The Transport Ferry Service. Twin sister vessels, the m.v. "Done Ferry" and the m.v. " Cerdic Ferry" will, between them, provide this " drive-on/drive-off " type service.
The "Doric Ferry," which has just come into service, is of the same modern specification as the "Cerdic." Between them, the two ships can carry weekly some 600 lorries and cars on regular crossings between Tilbury and Rotterdam and Tilbury and Antwerp The " Doric "
is the fourth ship to be specially built for the service in the past four years.
Mn, M. K. Bustard, general manager, announcing the new facilities, said: "Th,is new service means that every day from Monday to Saturday one of our ships will sail from Tilbury to Rotterdam or Antwerp with British export goods. More and more firms are delivering their products to the Continent by road, During the past year we have carried some 11,000 commercial vehicles and we anticipate that during 1962 more than 15,000 loads will travel by this means across the North Sea.
