A Tractive Unit for Articulated-outfit Work and a 32-seater Bus Named the Falcon, Offered with Dennis Petrol Engine or Perkins Oil Unit
COR 1939, Dennis Btos., Ltd., Guild]. ford, is including in its range two new models—a goods chassis and a
passenger vehicle. The former is a short-wheelbase tractive unit, for use with semi-trailers, and the latter is a 32 seater, described as a" service bus" and designated the "Falcon,"
Both machines are typical of the well-known high-class products of the Dennis company. Their lines, layout, and detail convey an impression of scientific design and skilled workmanship, whilst they represent strength combined with lightness carried to an advanced stage.
In both cases the standard power unit installed is the Dennis fourcylindered 75 b.h.p. petrol engine, having cylinders measuring 100 mm. by 120 mm. An unusual feature is that the timing gear is arranged at the rear and that oil for the clutch mechanism is supplied from the engine system.
As an altecnative, the Perkins 16 sixcylindered oil engine is available for the Falcon.
The tractive unit has a wheelbase of 8 ft. 3f ins., and the chassis is equipped with fitments for the quick coupling of the semi-trailer. It has a spiral-bevel rear axle and hydraulic brakes. Provision is made for the operation of the brakes on the trailer. This vehicle costs k:550.
With forward or normal control, the Falcon is offered with a wheelbase of 10 ft. 6 ins., or 14 ft. and with a fourspeed or a five-speed gearbox, the propeller shaft being in hen sections with centre bearing and incorporating needle-roller universal joints.
Final drive is, again, of the spiralbevel type and the brakes are actuated by by means.
The body, with which the vehicle will he equipped when it makes its first appearance at the Scottish Show, is a Duple product of light construction, having a sliding-door entrance at the front on the near side, and it will be finished in fire-engine red and cream. The price of the five-speed chassis is +Z,562, and of the four-speed model .1.:550, whilst as an oiler the machinccosts R.800.
