FOUR passenger transport organ izalions have Asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer to receive. a deputation to hear their case for substantial relief from taxation. .
They are the Municipal .Passenger Transport Association, Public Transport Association, Passenger. Vehicle Operatcirs'. ASsociation. and Scottish Road Passenger. Transport Asseiciation.
In .a letter • to the Chancellor the organizations said: "Road passenger transport undertakings are exceedingly disappointed that the opportunity was not 'taken in your -Autumn Budget of mitigating the heavy tax burden which bears so harshly on this industry. Remission of the present heavy taxation on :the industry would make a most valuable contribution towards the stabilization of the cost of -living."
GLASGOW COORDINATION: • NEW STEP
A FURTHER stage .was reached on Monday in 'negotiations on the .coordination of Glasgow's municipal transport, system with the .railway and company-owned . bus services.
.Mr. Andrew Hood, Lord Provost, submitted. the municipal representatives' observations on 'proposals put forward on behalf of the British Transport Commission. last June for certain changes to bemade before the electrification of the
suburban railways, was started. • Sir .Ian 13oiton,. of the .Commission,. who presided, undertook to consult the B.T.C. and to meet the Municipal representatives again. shortly BATTERY DEALERS ASSURED
AFTER the inquiry into the battery trade by the Monopolies Commission, and whatever its result, Oldham and Son, Ltd., and their dealers would stand where they were today. This assurance was given by Mr, Stanley Wrigglesworth, general manager of the company, at a dinner held by the concern in London last week to mark Oldham's 90th anniversary.
Mr. John Oldham, chairman, made a plea for politics to be kept out of industry, and for a cut in Government spending.
