THE PROPOSED increase in lorry driver test fees has been imposed by Transport Secretary David Howell. He said last week that the jump — from £44 to £59.50 — was necessary to keep hgv services self-supporting. The fees were last increased in January 1981.
The cost of full and renewal licences will go up from £4.60 to £5, for a provisional fee from £2.30 to £2.50 and for a duplicate licence from £1.15 to £1.25.
According to the Department, costs in this sector have been subject to tight scrutiny with economies made wherever possible. Costs will continue to be kept under constant review.
The new fee will be payable on all applications received on or after September 27.
