MR Elsworth makes some interesting comments in his letter (CM, Aug 7) but dare I make a tongue-in-cheek suggestion that if he had had one of our guides in his bus he would not have been caught in the heavy traffic from Vauxhall Bridge to Parliament Square? (I take it that he must be driving a coach, rather than a bus, as his address is Barnsley and not a London one?) Our guides would have told him if this traffic is a regular occurrence, and given him ample warning to take another route, or if the traffic was caused by unusual circumstances the guide could have taken him off the route to avoid the congestion and come in at the back of Parliament Square, or avoided it altogether.
When you think of the cost of engine wear, extra diesel and chewed fingernails our guide fee would probably be less — and they are much prettier to look at than "ignorant car drivers"!
