• Shell has introduced Advanced Diesel XL, the first ultra-low sulphur diesel fuel to be refined in the UK. It competes with existing "green" diesels such as Greenergy DERV, sold as Sainsbury's City Diesel. The new fuel is refined at Shell Haven refinery in Essex; it contains Shell's additive package, and its lubricity performance is guaranteed.
The fuel reduces visible smoke by about 30%, but costs around 2p/lit more than conventional diesel. One of the first urban operators using the fuel is Cowie County Bus in Hertfordshire.
