A TRUCK driver was treated in hospital after his vehicle crashed through a motorway barrier and came to rest on the West Coast railway line in Scotland.
The accident took place on 27 August. The artic, driven by a 63-year-old Wincanton driver on behalf of the Somerfield group, left the M74 near Junction 14 at 4am and drove down an embank ment. It finally stopped across the North-South railway line close to Elvanfoot, Lanarkshire.
The driver was taken to Wishaw General Hospital suffering minor injuries.
An investigation is now underway to establish how the truck left the motorway and ended upon the line, though it is understood that the driver became ill at the wheel.
