Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Renault's Magnum remains one of the most distinctive trucks on the road, but distinction doesn't count for much in the highly competitive long-haul sector.

Others have caught up with and in many cases surpassed what the Magnum has to offer. That's not to say Magnum is a bad truck, just that perhaps its time has passed. Renault's revamp of the exterior gives it a friendlier, rounded look, and on the evidence of this test, there's little wrong with the fuel economy of the truck.

The transition to semi-auto gearboxes coupled with the Mack engines could do with more refinement, although the performance of the motor is good — shame it will be replaced by a Volvo derivative at Euro 4, The latest Magnum's combination of space and pace will ensure it stays on some drivers' wish lists for the future, sadly that is not being reflected in the market figures.
