It is of the indirect-injection type with Ricardo Comet pre-combustion chambers. The single-hole injectors are accessibly mounted on the left-hand side of the cylinder block and immediately below them are the heater plugs. The fuel-feed pump is mounted on the side of the injection pump from which it is driven.
Easily replaceable wet cylinder liners are used, the bores being 82 mm. The piston stroke is 90 mm. so that the total swept volume is 1,900 c.c. Two compression rings and two scraper rings are incorporated in the flat-topped light
alloy pistons. The crankshaft is supported on three lead-indium, steel-backed bearings, similar types of bearing being used in the big-ends of the connecting rods.
A three-bearing camshaft, which receives its drive from front-mounted helical spur gears, operates the tappets and push-rods of the overhead valves.
A passenger version of this chassis is also being produced, and in this form is intended to take a I0-12-seat body.
