• Eleven major Welsh road improvement schemes have been transferred from the Trunk Road Preparation Pool to the firm Road Programme; work is planned to start within three years.
Four of the schemes form part of M4 motorway extension from Tredegar Park, Newport, to west of Pontardulais. The remaining schemes, also designed to improve communications or to provide by-passes of points of congestion or of historic towns, are as follows:—
A5 /A487, Britannia Bridge; A550, Drome Corner-Cheshire County boundary; A40, Gilwern-Glangrwyney link road; A40 /A4076, Haverfordwest southern by-pass; A483, Abermule by-pass; A487, Caenarvon inner relief road; A492, Llanidloes by-pass.
With these schemes in progress, firmly programmed and being prepared, the total value of the Welsh trunk road programme is now over £250m.
