Two models have been added to the Cat range of pumps, designed for pressure washing equipment, marketed by the Spraying Systems Division of CT (London) Ltd. They are of the three-piston type.
The pumps are identical dimensionally and have a length of 13in., a width of less than Sin, and a height of 7in. Model 00420A will deliver up to 4 (US) gal /min at 800 psi, while Model 00300A delivers 3 (US) gal /min at 1000 psi.' When working continuously at 850 rpm with an input of 2 hp, singlephase mains electricity supply can be used as a power source.
In common with other Cat pumps, the new models incorporate floating pistons arranged and cylinders of both models are polished to a mirror finish to increase cup, cylinder and seal life. Another refinement of the basic Cat design is the inclusion of a lipped crankcase seal with a built-in spring, which acts as a garter to contract and maintain a tight grip as the seal wears. A barrier washer has been fitted to each piston and it is claimed to be practically impossible for any service fluid to get into the crankcase.
Materials used in the construction of Cat pumps are mainly corrosion resistant. The pistons and cylinders are of stainless steel, while the crankcase is a one-piece aluminium casting. The crankshaft is made of chrome molybdenum steel.
The 1000 psi pump is fitted with special hot cups which enable the unit to be used for pumping fluids at temperatures up to 86 deg C.
