Perhaps the improbable demolition of its inventor's council house may prohibit the launch of the greatest challenge to 32ton trucks this country has ever known!
The amusing story (CM October 26) does, however, have a ring of truth for, in support of that adage that it has all been done before, readers may be interested to know that I have a photograph showing the -Leyfordson'searlier generation. Seen at Crewkerne, Somerset in August 1955, the view shows a 1927 Leyland PLSC3 "Lion" chassis fitted with rudimentary cab and platform body. It had formerly been a single-deck bus working from Southern National's Bridport depot.
Proof, not only that the Leyfordson did get off the ground — even if it failed to catch on — but also that truth is sometimes stranger than fiction!
