It is appropriate that the owners of the world's fastest grand prix circuit should be first off the grid in celebration of the centenary of the motor vehicle in 1985. Silverstone Circuits Ltd has taken the initiative in proposing a national event to be held at Silverstone during that year's spring bank holiday weekend. Commercial vehicles will, of course, be included.
Lord Montagu of Beaulieu is chairman of the ten-man organising committee. Michael Frostick, the motor historian, will co-ordinate the event and will be in touch with organisations that may be interested in participating. What a pity the final of the Commercial Motor Lorry Driver of the Year Competition could not be part of it.
