WINNER of the 1984 Avril Hardy Prize is the son of a
Powys haulier, David Woodhouse. The prize is awarded annually to the Newcastle upon Tyne Polytechnic sandwich course student who achieves the best overall results in the polytechnic's Diploma in transport management and the Chartered Institute of Transport examinations. It commemorates the death in a road accident of a student who had worked briefly for the Road Haulage Association after graduating from the polytechnic.
David, whose father is John Woodhouse of J. E. Woodhouse (Haulage) of Newtown, was presented with a silver salver and a book token by John 'Ellis Jones, a fellow student of Avril Hardy who is now with Midland Fox.
