'THE first 36-ft. vehicles to go into 1 service with Venture Transport Co. (Newcastle) Ltd. are two Leyland Leopards with Alexander dual-purpose 5I-seater bodies. Another three are due to enter service by the end of August. The Alexander bodywork represents perhaps one of the most successful attempts at styling of 36-ft. coachwork for dual-purpose duties. The front and rear design, although conforming to the latest trend, flows more successfully into the remaining lines of the body, while the very long windows " disguise " the length of the vehicle.
Smiths forced-air ventilation is employed on the new buses, setting a very high standard for this class of vehicle. Lighting is by three fluorescent tubes: a one-piece air-operated door is provided, and the equipment includes windscreen washers.
a6 The full-luxury coach version of this body is already proving popular with long-distance operators, and examples are in service with companies in the Scottish Omnibuses Group and with the North Western Road Car Co. Ltd. on motorway services to London.
