WORLD-WIDE manufacturing and IT distribution rights for a small utility vehicle called the Farmobil have been acquired by Chrysler International S.A. The Greek company, Fara) A.G., which previously produced the Farmobil on a limited scale, has been purchased by Chrysler.
Proposals submitted by Chrysler to the Greek Government, outlining the projected manufacturing operation, provide for the manufacture of several thousands annually, 80 per cent of which are • expected to be exported from Greece. The programme also outlines expansion plans which would provide facilities for the assembly of 400 Kew Dodge commercial vehicles annually in Greece. If the plans are approved a new factory will be built in Greece The Farmobil was originally designed and developed by Fahr A.G. of West Germany, and can carry a half-ton payload. A BMW 700 engine developing 35 b.h.p. is employed and the transmission is of Porsche design.
