A JOINT declaration by 12 international organizations of road users, carriers and manufacturers, and sponsered by the IRU, has been made advocating the adoption of a 13-ton axle and 45-ton gross weight. The organizations claim that this is the most rational solution to the energy problem.
In any case, say the organizations, the Council of Ministers should not adopt standards of less than an 11ton axle and 40-ton gross weight.
The only British organization included among the 12 is the International Chamber of Shipping.
The Road Haulage Association and the Freight Transport Association, although not international organizations, are in complete agreement.
