THE first public appearance of light and medium commercial vehicles based on "club of four" components is likely to be the Brussels Show which opens on January 15 next year.
The "club" comprises DAF, Saviem, Magirus-Deutz and Volvo, who jointly set up a design and production organization to make common parts for new vehicles in the 6to 12-tonne-gvw range.
The vehicles will be individual products built by their own companies, but will use frames, axles and other main parts supplied by the joint component factories — one of which has been set up in France and another in Germany.
All four makes will, under the terms of the agreement, be free to compete in any market with their new vehicles.
