For at least 600 people the fourth day of Royal Ascot was "ladies day".. The 600 were guests of the BRS group of companies and a ladies' committee of senior executives' wives, headed by group PRO Sue Martin, had laid everything on. Well not quite everything; as usual, the ladies didn't lay on the money — for laying on the nags.
The wife of contracts director Reg Cole was the party's official tipster; I can only say it's lucky for the company that Reg picks more winners than his good lady. And during the afternoon one of the managing directors was heard confiding to a colleague: "If only we could pocket money as easily as these bookmakers, the men at Argosy House would be delighted!"
