A TIPPER driver told the new Western
Licensing Authority, Mr. J. R. C. Samuel-Gibbon, at Bristol on Wednesday that shortly after he had informed his employer that he was thinking of applying for a licence to operate his own vehicle, he •was dismissed from his job. He later discovered that the only objector to his application was, in fact, his ex-employer.
The applicant, Mr. F. W. Baillie, of Weston-super-Mare, told the Authority that he wanted a B licence, conditioned to the carriage of timber, building and quarry materials within 75 miles, to carry for several -people who had written supporting letters but who were unable to attend court.
Mr. Baillie said that when his employer, Mr. Smith, of Smith of Weston (Haulage Contractors) Ltd., gave him notice, he had applied for a licence on the same day. In cross-examination, he said that he could not agree that Mr. Smith had had one vehicle standing idle every day between January and April.
The application was refused.
