Irecently wrote to a number of British motor manufacturers with regards to a new light commercial vehicle concept I had in mind. I gave little information, simply saying the vehicle would have, I believe, considerable commercial potential.
I did mention that I had more than 30 years' experience in the transport industry, and had worked on a wide range of commercial vehicles in all conditions.
Of those that replied, most said they were uninterested without asking any further information. One well-known manufacturer appeared to be almost indignant that I should approach them unsolicited.
Is the motor industry so buoyant that ft can adopt this attitude?
Admittedly I may have been a crank, but then again it could have been 40 years ago and I was someone called Issigoniss with new ideas on small cars.
During the past 30 years I have witnessed British manufacturers losing large markets to their competitors and, in my opinion, deservedly so in some cases for their lack of innovation, in others for poor quality and complacency.
