• Monldands District Council, based at Coatbridge in Lanarkshire, has bought its first Seddon Atkinsons and put them straight to work in the cleansing department.
The eight new Seddons include the council's first sixwheel refuse collectors with Norba compactors and its first eight-wheel compactor with a Jack Allen body.
The five crew-cabbed 24tonners with Norba bodies were specified with Allison five-speed automatic gearboxes to overcome excessive downtime caused by the stop-start operations. They are powered by the 128kW Perkins Phaser engines.
The day-cabbed 3-11 eightwheeler has been equipped with a Jack Allen Motor Bodies rear end loading compactor body for emptying skips. It is powered by a 180kW Cummins 10-litre engine driving through a Fuller 11609 gearbox.
The final two vehicles are 211 16-tonners with Telehoist skip loading gear. They have 113kW Perkins Phaser engines and ZF six-speed gearboxes.
