• Irish hauliers have won major Government concessions which increase the period that international licences are issued from three years to five. The same arrangement will soon apply to domestic licences.
The moves were announced at the Irish Road Haulage Association's 21st Annual Conference by Irish Transport Minister Noel Tracy.
The conference, in Limerick, heard how the Irish Department of Transport had held a one-day conference to listen to hauliers' concerns, resulting in the extended licences.
The minister also claimed his department has halved the time it takes to process operators licences from four weeks to two: "Our ambition is to process licence applications by return," says Tracy.
