OF imposing appearance and affording ample power under the most difficult conditions, four Studebakers, in 3-ton, 4-ton, and 5-ton sizes, are displayed here. A 8-ton and a 4-ton chassis serve as the basis of hydraulic tipping lorries with steel-lined bodies.

The smaller machine has a six-cylindered engine of 82.5 mm. bore and 111 mm. stroke, giving a piston-swept volume of 3.569 litres and developing 85 b.h.p. at 3,200 r.p.m. The castiron pistons are electroplated. Static and dynamic balancing is a feature of the heavy crankshaft, which has four main bearings, steel-backed, and babbit-lined.

Aluminium pistons are employed in the Hercules six-cylindered 4.21-litre .engine mounted in the 4-tanner.
