Mr. R. E. Bottrill, in a report to the transport committee, said that despite a recent increase in fares, West Hartlepool Corporation bus fares were still among the cheapest in the country. The report stated that among 90 municipal bus undertakings, only one stood out as having substantially lower fares than West Hartlepool. The report added that last year, the buses made a profit of £19,651 but this figure was not adequate if they were to continue buying buses out of revenue.
