ANEW display vehicle recently constructed for The British Aluminium Co., Ltd., is now engaged on a twomonth tour of Britain's vehicle manu
facturers. The elaborately equipped vehicle is based on a Bedford TK petrolengined 8-ton chassis, with the aluminium-panelled cab being specially built -by Arlington Bodybuilders, Ltd. The semi-trailer, constructed by Coventry Steel Caravans, Ltd., the design con sultants being A. B. Kirkbridge and Associates, has a 10-in, drop frame with a single axle.
The side walls of the trailer are constructed of interlocked satin-anodised extruded sections which give it an attractive ribbed look. The sides of the body open to provide considerable exhibition space on a limited floor area. The lower sections form an extension of the floor, and the upper, a canopy lined with beech. The floor extensions are supported by jacks.
When the extended sidesare closed. the trailer is completely weatherproof and air conditioning can be employed. The floor is extruded aluminium alloy, insulated and covered with hardboard and vinyl. The aluminium-sheet is also insulated and there is a translucent corrugated plastic ceiling with fluorescent lighting, powered from the mains.
Normal entrance is through a rear door, but there is also a side door for use if necessary. Next to the rear door is a panelled section with a doubleglazed window fitted with venetian blinds An unusual feature, the blinds are "sandwiched " between the window panes.
