THE European Economic Community Commission has decided to establish a joint consultative committee for social problems connected with road haulage, following a request for such a body by the European Parliament, Economic and Social Committee and various Community bodies.
Similar committees are likely to be created for railways and waterways, but there was clearly a particularly urgent need for co-operation between the Commission and the two sides of industry on road haulage.
MORE COMMERCIALS IN the first six months of this year some I 248,000 commercial vehicles were produced in Britain, compared with 247,752 in the same period last year. The number of commercials sent abroad was 85,300 (85,286), which brought in a record total of overseas exchanges for January to June in any year of more than £68m.
