ADETAILED check on the progress of collection vehicles at Manchester Docks has been made in recent weeks. Other measures to speed up the turnround of vehicles at the port have been taken recently (The Commercial Motor, July 24) and the latest efficiency probe is, in effect, a fresh look at the workings of the quay delivery bureau which have operated since 1957, with preference being given to pre-advised vehicles.
Rather less than a quarter of the total dock traffic is handled by the bureau, however, and for a long time hauliers have hoped that eventually it would become the nerve centre of all the traffic.
Certainly the analysis of the results will be of interest, especially in view of the sting in the report of the Prices and Incomes Board.
