Four new sites for AV Dawson
TEESSIDE hauler AV Dawson has taken advantage of the fall In commercial property prices to buy four new sites over the oast year.
Dawson has spent £7m acquinng the Bowes Road Industrial Estate in Middlesbrough, the former biofuels company D1 Oils' base at Riverside Park in the town, 3.5 acres of playing field land and a former pie factory.
The multimoda specialist plans to develop the D1 site to expand its own rail freight handling and distribution operation, and lease some of the acquisitions to other businesses.
Dawson is now the largest individual landowner on Riverside Park with more than 80 acres.
Rob Turnbull, business development leader at Dawson, says: "Road haulage is a lot quieter this year, but the drop in commercial property prices has been an opportunity to develop warehousing and storage.
"Things will eventually pick up, but we will be prepared for the future and the opportunity to buy the site was too good to turn down.
"We plan to market the properties as well as using them for our own storage needs."
