PANDORO is making a bid to take advantage of next year's cut in drivers' hours by spending Vim on boosting the ferry service between Fleetwood and Larne.
This was announced last week when the company recommissioned the roi.ro ferry Puma which has accommodation for 91 12m trailers and has cabin space for 40 drivers.
The sister ship Bison is currently being modified to the same standard for the LarneLiverpool service.
Pandora expects the services will gain Northern Ireland traffic from the Larne-Loch Ryan services once the eight-hour driving day starts in January, as operators will want to avoid sending vehicles via Stranraer when the drivers could make use of the longer sea crossing to make up rest periods.
According to the company, use of Fleetwood cuts out up to 150 miles in serving many industrial centres in Northern England and the Midlands.
