LEEDS AND BRADFORD haulage drivers have "reluctantly" accepted a wage deal which gives top weight drivers an £80 basic rate for the next 11 months.
The men, who turned down a 5.4 per cent interim pay offer a month ago, accepted the deal giving top weight men a £4 increase from £76 to £80 for a 40hour week. Container lorry drivers' rates go up from £77 to £81, and lower paid drivers get pro rata increases.
Overnight subsistence increases from £8.75 to £9.25 until December 31, and then to £9.50 until the agreement ends on October 31. This means that the November anniversary date is preserved.
A claim has meantime been received by hauliers represented on the Western Joint Industrial Council, calling for rises at least in line with the retail price index and a cut in the working week to 35 hours.
In Northern Ireland, employers have offered drivers an increase of under four per cent, from £77 to £80 for a 40-hour week.
