EUROPE'S first professional institute for distribution managers was formed last Friday by the Centre for Physical Distribution Management.
Announcing its inception, British Institute of Management director general Roy Close, said: "It recognises the increased professionalism and importance of the distribution manager."
According to a survey carried out earlier this year, the managers felt the need for an Institute to confirm their professional status and provide facilities for the development of their skills.
The new Institute, which is affiliated to BIM, will have three grades of membership: Associate, Member (MIPDM) and Fellow (FIPDM). Fees are £20 a year for Associates and Members, and £30 for Fellows.
